Gray’s sitting at his desk, head propped up in both hands as he pores over a book. When I whistle from the doorway, he jolts his head up and I realize he was sleeping.

A smile tugs at my lips. “Old man tired from his big weekend at the fair?” He yawns and blinks and shakes his head, disoriented and fucking adorable. I grab the top of the doorframe with my hand and lean into it, knowing it makes my arm muscles pop. His eyes immediately trace along my bicep and shoulder, down to where my t-shirt rides the top of my hips.

He clears his throat, frowning at the sleep taste on his tongue. “Are you leaving? Do I need to go pick up the kids from Sarah’s?” I’m supposed to be driving to a farm equipment show for the weekend. Dad used to take me with him when I was little, and it feels wrong to go without him. I could have–should have–asked my employees to come with me, but with business failing I’m afraid talking to them will give them a chance to quit.

“Well,” I draw out the word, swaying forward and back, then go on in a rush. “Tom and Sarah might have offered to keep the kids overnight so you can go with me.” The faster I talk, the less time he has to think of things to worry about.

It wasn’t fast enough, apparently, because he frowns. “Are we sure that’s a good idea? Eli isn’t–”

I scoot across the room and plant my ass on his desk. “They have a tween of their own, so they might have an actual clue what they’re doing, unlike us.”

Lost in thought, he captures my ankles in his big hands and leans over to kiss my knee. “You have a point. But why do you want me to come look at tractors?”

“I’m keeping you around for when I’m tired of tractors and ready for a very long night in a hotel room with no curious three-year-olds trying to interrupt us.”

“In that case…” When he starts to stand up, I throw my arms and legs around his torso. He staggers, but manages to remain upright with me draped around him. I’m buzzing with feelings as we sink into a kiss. Happiness, horniness, but most of all that raw and eternal love so vast I’ll never get my head around it. “Let me pack a bag.”

When we get to the bedroom, I dive into his drawer and throw two shirts into a duffel. Eyeing me suspiciously, he pulls them back out and holds them up. One of them sports a famous green-and-yellow tractor brand, while the other advertises my favorite outdoor goods store. “Where the hell did these come from?”

I offer him my biggest, most hopeful smile. Originally, I planned to wait and see how long it took him to notice them in the drawer, but I can’t resist the idea of him walking around a farm show looking like a local. “It’s your undercover disguise.
